Education
I believe No Child Left Behind is poor policy made by a conservative administration. While it highlights
the need to force school districts to increase their focus on minority and special education communities, its singular focus
on testing and punitive measures when schools do not meet standards will only worsen the outcomes for our most needy
students... more >>

Energy and the Environment
With rising oil prices and costly heating bills, our use of fossil fuels has
moved front and center. I believe that American innovation properly motivated with government incentives and support can
deliver economically-viable renewable energy technology within a decade... more >>

Foreign Policy
I will always promote
multilateral approaches to conflict resolution. We must also work with our allies to ensure that all people are granted
their basic human rights. Wars of aggression cannot be supported by the United States and we must strive to support our
allies in defensive efforts and through diplomatic negotiations. I believe that America is at its strongest when we work
with our allies to secure a stronger, more peaceful world community... more >>

Health Care
I understand how critical health insurance coverage is to ensuring financial security and personal
health. That is why I am deeply concerned about the growing number of uninsured Americans. I strongly believe that all Americans should have health insurance, and in order to accomplish
that we must transition to a single-payer health insurance system... more >>

Indian Point
In the long-run, we absolutely need to convert Indian Point and make use of that facility for the
production of alternative energy and we need to retrain the employees in order to save their jobs. In the short-run, we much recognize the facility's current
national security implications and immediately secure the area... more >>

Iraq
I believe we should bring our military forces home immediately. The American people were deceived into supporting a war without a just cause, and, to add insult to injury, the war has been seriously mismanaged. The war in Iraq began with the promise of increased security in the face of weapons of mass destruction... more >>

Jobs, Economy and Workers' Rights
I have spent much of my life fighting for the rights of workers. I was selected to join the inaugural class of the
AFL-CIO's Union Summer, I worked to unionize day care workers in Chicago, and then I was invited to speak at the annual
meeting for the AFL-CIO in 1996. As a teacher in the New York City public schools, I worked with the United Federation of
Teachers (UFT) to lobby Albany for additional funds for our teachers and schools. I sincerely believe in, support, and
aggressively fight for honest living wages, the right to organize, and the eradication of poverty, and will remain committed
to these causes indefinitely... more >>

Social Security and Retirement
Social Security is the American people's treasured safety net that has brought thousands of people out of poverty and
continues to demonstrate its necessity 70 years after its inception. I will battle
privatization and fight for Social Security's long-term viability so that our senior citizens of today and future
generations can reap the benefits of a life-long contribution to American society... more >>

Technology, Innovation and Competitiveness
Innovation and competitiveness must be a national priority, and education in the math and
sciences must play a key role in our plan in order to fuel the entrepreneurial spirit and train future generations for even
greater success. We need to lure engineers and scientists to join the ranks of America's educators, and we must increase
scholarships and financial assistance for those who pursue these important fields... more >>

Women's Rights
I strongly believe that women have the right to choose how they live their
lives. Sue Kelly, in virtual
lockstep with the Republican Party, has continuously voted to diminish choice. She has repeatedly failed to protect the
rights of the people of the Hudson Valley by supporting restrictions on choice that ignore health consequences for pregnant
women... more >>
